Miracle for Young Women at Hammond Stadium

(Fort Myers, FL) – Fort Myers Miracle and Hammond Stadium will host Footsteps To The Future for a special event on Thursday, July 28th for the 7:05pm game against the Tampa Yankees. The local non-profit serves young women in the community who are in or aging out of foster care.

Fans are encouraged to arrive early to watch dance performers, The Calendar Girls, who are scheduled to perform at 6:30 PM near the fountain. Prior to the game, photographer Crae Clemons of Bonita Springs will take pictures of fans with a Miracle ball player or one of the Calendar girls.

In the concession area, Footsteps To The Future mentors and mentees will offer raffle tickets, giving guests a chance to win various prizes, including a pair of tickets to a Miami Marlins game. Proceeds from the raffle and event fundraiser will continue to support mentee programs including tutoring, life skills mentoring and advocacy. As Judi Woods likes to say, “It is all about the girls!”

Judi Woods, founder and executive director said, “Our mission is to empower our young women to safely and successfully transition into independent living. We are very excited to partner with the Miracle team and Hammond Stadium for this event. It gives us an opportunity to meet people in our community and have fun while we share our message to help our young women become responsible citizens.”

According to Florida’s Children First, an advocacy agency for aging out foster youth, there are over 1300 young people aging out of foster care State wide and many are here in SW Florida. Footsteps To The Future provides services and more importantly, a tremendous opportunity for these young women to achieve life success by pairing them with volunteer mentors who are screened, trained, and can emulate successful living. Woods said, “The young women learn things about daily living that most people may take for granted.”

Over the last few years, Footsteps To The Future has trained more than 50 mentors and paired more than 48 mentees. The results have allowed young women, who once had no hope for a successful future, to live happy and stable lives. Some of the young women have young children, who are a result of abuse and other offenses. Footsteps To The Future supports their personal growth by helping them understand their importance as human beings and caretakers for future generations.

The special event at Hammond Stadium allows stadium guests to purchase a specially priced $25 value package that includes a general admission ticket, hot dog, soda and special Miracle hat for only $15. For an additional $2, seats may be upgraded to box level. Beers and sodas will be half priced all night.
